How to reach people in remote areas of Papua so they really understand the strategic goals of the development program?
In Paniai, one of the districts in Papua Province, we found ‘mama-mama’ (mothers), who have extensive knowledge of child health issues. People believe and listen to their advice because they live with them and proved to be helpful to people in their village. And they have a passion for serving the community. They are posyandu* cadres in the village. They walk barefoot from village to village, educating people about the importance of women’s and children’s health. They are the real agent of change! *posyandu: an integrated service post in Indonesia that plays a role in addressing major health problems faced by women and children in Indonesia. This is community-based preventive and promotive care.
